Kayak Safety Workshop
April 15; 1pm - 3pm
Allard Center YMCA, Goffstown
Learn important safety techniques before you head out in your kayak this summer. In a warm pool, practice getting out of your boat when it tips (a wet exit) and getting back in with the help of a partner. People who have taken this workshop feel more comfortable in their kayaks and consequently are better paddlers. Workshop cost: $25.
Fly Fishing Workshop
May 20; 6pm - 9pm AND May 22; 9am - 3pm
Prime Time, Manchester
Designed primarily for first-time fly-fishers, the workshop will cover the basics of equipment, fly casting, stream ecology, knot tying, safety and how to find those "hot spots" along New Hampshire's rivers and lakes. The highlight of the two days will be Saturday, when we'll pull on our waders and head out to a local fishing hole to put our newly learned skills to the test! Location TBD. No experience or equipment needed. Workshop cost: $25.
Intermediate Hike and Center for Wildlife Workshop
May 27; 10am - 3pm
Mt. Agamenticus and Center for Wildlife, York, ME
Hike on the Ring Trail and experience an informative self-guided tour of Mount Agamenticus with information about the area's geology, ecology, history, and current conservation efforts. The hike is 4 miles round trip with moderate elevation gain. After hiking, we will participate in a special program about wildlife rehabilitation at the Center for Wildlife, a wildlife rehabilitation and education center. Workshop cost: $30.
Beginner Touring Kayak Lessons and Trip
June 10, 10am - 3pm
Contoocook River, Concord
Learn how to paddle a kayak or perfect your strokes in this instructional trip on the scenic Contoocook River. We will meet at Contoocook River Canoe Company where you can rent a boat if needed. After learning basic kayak strokes and maneuvers we will paddle to upriver toward Daisy Beach. Trip cost: $20. Boat rental: $20 Launching fee if not renting: $3.
Beginner Kayak Trip
July 15, 10am - 3pm
Contoocook River, Concord
Paddle the beautiful Contoocook River as it meanders past rural New Hampshire countryside. Meet at Contoocook River Canoe Company, rent a kayak if needed, and get shuttled to our put in point. We will paddle approximately 5 miles, eat lunch on the river, and end up back at CRCC. Trip cost: $30 (includes boat shuttle). Boat rental: $20
Intermediate Touring Kayak Trip
July 29, 12:30 - 5:00pm
Sagamore Creek/New Castle Island, Portsmouth
This intermediate trip includes paddling approximately 8 miles on a tidal river and around the smaller islands near New Castle Island. You must have kayaking experience to attend this trip. A beautiful coastal paddling experience! Trip cost: $20. Boat rental from Portsmouth Kayak Adventures: $45. Launch fee if not renting: $5
Beginner Kayak Trip
August 12, 10am - 3pm
Merrimack River, Concord
Kayak a beautiful 5 mile stretch of the Merrimack River while enjoying the lush scenery and exciting wildlife. Eat lunch on a sandbar on the river and swim in the clear water - refreshing! Trip cost: $32 (includes boat shuttle from Contoocook River Canoe Company). Boat rental: $20
Intermediate Kayak Trip
August 26, 10am - 3pm
Squam Lake, Holderness
Meet at Squam Lakes Association on Piper Cove and paddle to Moon Island (approximately 8 miles round trip). Eat lunch on the island and explore the beautiful beaches. You must have kayaking experience to attend this trip. Trip cost: $20. Boat rental from Squam Lakes Association: $50. Parking fee: $5
Beginner Kayak Trip
September 9, 10am - 3pm
Newfound Lake, Hebron
Kayak on this pristine lake in early autumn - an incredible combination! We will meet at the Newfound Audubon Center, rent boats if needed, and paddle approximately 5 miles around the lake looking at the abundant aquatic plants and wildlife. Bring your camera! Trip cost: $20. Boat rental from Newfound Audubon Center: $25.
Intermediate Hike and Raptor Observation
September 16, 10am - 3pm
Pack Monadnock, Peterboro
During the fall raptor migration, New Hampshire Audubon staffs the observatory to count raptors and talk to visitors about the birds (hawks, eagles, ospreys, and vultures). We will meet at Miller State Park, hike to the raptor observatory on the top of Pack Monadnock (a 4 mile round trip with 700 feet of elevation gain) where we will watch the magnificent birds and hear their stories. This trip is rated intermediate because of the elevation gain. Trip cost: $20.
